When did Newcastle United last win a trophy and who owns the club?
The Saudi-backed project in Newcastle is in full swing with the Magpies hoping to end the campaign by returning to the Champions League for the first time since 2003, and claiming their first piece of major silverware in decades.
A sensible approach to recruitment combined with Eddie Howe's masterful coaching performance has seen the Tynesiders emerge alongside Arsenal as the most improved Premier League outfit in 2022/23.
And while a return to Europe's premier club competition would be huge, the significance of winning a trophy in igniting what's proving to be an incredibly exciting project can't be understated.
The Magpies are just 90 minutes away from lifting the Carabao Cup aloft.
When did Newcastle last win a trophy?
It's been some drought and no, we're not counting the now-defunct Intertoto Cup as a serious piece of silverware. The Magpies have triumphed in several minor European competitions and have won the second division on multiple occasions since their last success in a major cup competition.
Alas, the last time Newcastle won a major trophy was way back in 1955 when they prevailed in the FA Cup.
- First Division/Premier League - 4 (1904/05, 1906/07, 1908/09, 1926/27)
- Second Division/Championship - 4 (1964/65, 1992/93, 2009/10, 2016/17)
- FA Cup - 6 (1909/10, 1923/24, 1931/32, 1950/51, 1951/52, 1954/55)
- League Cup - 0
- FA Charity Shield - 1 (1909)
- Sheriff of London Charity Shield - 1 (1907)
- Texaco Cup - 2 (1973/74, 1974/75)
- Inter-Cities Fairs Cup - 1 (1968/69)
- UEFA Intertoto Cup - 1 (2006)
- Anglo-Italian Cup - 1 (1973)
They beat Manchester City 3-1 in the final after taking the lead inside the opening minute through Jackie Milburn. Robert Johnstone equalised for City just before the break, but the Magpies run away with the cup following second half goals from Robert Mitchell and George Hannah.
Victory over the Manchester club meant Newcastle had secured their third FA Cup victory in five years. They've reached the final three times since, but have come up short on each occasion.

Who owns Newcastle?
The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) owns an 80% stake in Newcastle, having led the investment group which purchased the club for £300m in October 2021 after Mike Ashley sold up.
Their owners are incredibly rich, with the fund estimated to be worth £320bn.
Yasir Al-Rumayyan has been PIF's public face throughout the takeover as its governor and Newcastle chairman. PCP Capital Partners also have 10% of shares and run by Amanda Staveley, who played a major role in negotiations.
The final 10% went to David and Simon Reuben and their RB Sports and Media company. Jamie Reuben - son of David - is heavily involved as co-owner and director. The Reubens are the second richest family in the United Kingdom.
