When does Liga MX restart after Leagues Cup 2024?
- The Leagues Cup 2024 final takes place on Aug. 25
- Liga MX action is set to return on that same weekend
- Tigres square off against Chivas in the most exciting Liga MX matchup later this month
Liga MX play will return later this month near the conclusion of this summer's Leagues Cup tournament.
10 out of the 18 Mexican clubs participating in Leagues Cup 2024 managed to book their place in the Round of 32 with Pumas UNAM having already defeat Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 to reach the Round of 16, where they'll take on the winner of Seattle Sounders vs LA Galaxy. Club America already earned a spot in the knockout stage prior to the tournament beginning.
While Monterrey and Chivas saw early exits from the competition, teams like Pumas, Tigres and Club America are still alive and will look to do everything possible to claim the Leagues Cup trophy and book their place in the CONCACAF Champions Cup for next season.
When does Liga MX restart after Leagues Cup 2024?
Like MLS, the Liga MX 2024 Apertura season will resume before the conclusion of Leagues Cup and not after -- similar to last summer's edition.
There are Liga MX matches slated for Aug.23-25 and since the Leagues Cup final falls on Aug. 25, there's a good chance that a few of the Liga MX matches will be rescheduled should a team reach the final or the third place match.
As of right now, there are a few enticing matches to look out for on that weekend, including:
- August 23 - Tijuana vs Monterrey - 11:05 p.m. EST
- August 24 - Atlas vs Pumas - 9:00 p.m. EST
- August 24 - Tigres vs Chivas - 11:00 p.m. EST
One Liga MX team is guaranteed to go home tonight when Tigres UANL takes on Pachuca in the Round of 32. Last year, just two Liga MX teams made the quarterfinals: Monterrey and Queretaro. The former went on to finish fourth after losing the third place play-off to Philadelphia Union.
