Major League Soccer action will return later this month after the Leagues Cup 2024 final.

Leagues Cup has already brought us plenty of entertaining contests and impressive results from MLS sides in the competition. Austin FC managed to take down two of the biggest Mexican outfits in Monterrey and Pumas UNAM to claim their spot in the Round of 32 before crashing out against tournament favorites LAFC.

Teams like Toronto FC, Portland Timbers and CF Montreal also pulled off upsets over Liga MX teams, while other MLS sides like Atlanta United and Charlotte FC will be itching to return to league action later this month.

While many might think that MLS will resume play following the Leagues Cup final, it turns out that it's actually the other way around. The Leagues Cup final is slated for Aug. 25, and the next MLS matchday is set for Aug. 24 -- with every team except for Colorado Rapids scheduled to play on that Saturday.

However, that schedule is likely to change if an MLS team is able to reach the final of Leagues Cup or the third place match like we saw last summer but could remain unchanged if the last four of the tournament features all Liga MX teams.

Some matches to look out for on Aug. 24 (as of right now) are:

  • Inter Miami vs FC Cincinnati - 7:30 p.m. EST
  • Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC - 7:30 p.m. EST
  • Charlotte FC vs New York Red Bulls - 7:30 p.m. EST
  • LA Galaxy vs Atlanta United - 10:30 p.m. EST

There's added eyes too on MLS debuts for Olivier Giroud and Marco Reus. LAFC and LA Galaxy's newest signings respectively will bring experience and leadership to two sides pushing not only for the MLS Western Conference top seed and Supporters' Shield, but also the MLS Cup.
