When were Leicester last relegated?
Just two years on from a memorable FA Cup triumph and seven since the 5,000/1 title triumph, Leicester are on the brink of dropping into the Championship.
While very few expected the Foxes to emerge as a legitimate force in the wake of their unforgettable 2015/16 campaign, they looked for all money to upset to establishment at the peak of Brendan Rodgers' reign.
Their recruitment was revered, and their on-pitch success was envied by the Premier League's middlers. "This is what we could be," the likes of Aston Villa, Brighton, and Newcastle once said as Rodgers guided Leicester to domestic silverware, top-four contention, and European semi-finals.
However, the Foxes are no longer the source of envy. Instead, apathy prevails at the King Power as Dean Smith's players stare into the abyss. An unlikely relegation is surely imminent, but Leicester have been here before.
When were Leicester last relegated?
Leicester returned to the Premier League in 2003/04 after earning automatic promotion from the second tier, but their stint in the top-flight would last just a single season.
Working on a shoestring budget, Leicester's summer business was predicated on free transfers as the likes of Les Ferdinand, Keith Gillespie, Steve Howey, and Riccardo Scimeca all joined the club for no transfer fee.
Micky Adams had his work cut out if he was going to keep the Foxes up, but a 4-0 victory over Leeds brought about early optimism. However, that win was followed by five straight defeats in September and October which set an ominous tone. There were moments of promise, without doubt, especially before the festive period, but a 13-game winless run between 6 December and 28 February left the Foxes with plenty of work to do in their fight to survive.
In the end, Leicester recorded just two victories during the second half of the season, one of which arrived after their relegation was confirmed following a 2-2 draw with Charlton at the start of May.
The Foxes then had the chance to ruin Arsenal's parade on the final day of the season as they visited Highbury with the Gunners looking to wrap up their unbeaten season. Leading scorer Paul Dickov gave Leicester a surprise lead, but Arsenal responded with goals from Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry to win 2-1.
That defeat left Leicester in 18th with 33 points with Everton finishing six points ahead in 17th.
How many times have Leicester been relegated from the Premier League?
Relegation is hardly a novel concept for Leicester supporters. Since the inauguration of the Premier League, the Foxes have been relegated from the top tier three times (1994/95, 2001/02 & 2003/04).
Leicester sunk to greater depths in 2008 when they dropped down another tier before they quickly returned to the Championship following a swift stint in League One. Nigel Pearson got the club back into the top flight in 2014 and they've remained in the Premier League since after miraculously escaping relegation during their first season back in the big time.
Their current nine-season stay in the Premier League is the club's longest.
Are Leicester going to get relegated in 2022/23?
Well, FiveThirtyEight currently gives Leicester an 18% chance of survival with just one game in the 2022/23 season remaining.
It's been a wretched season for the Foxes, and they've amassed just 31 points from their 37 games thus far. As a result, they're in need of help on the final day. They must beat West Ham at the King Power to have any chance of survival, but they also need Bournemouth to take points off Everton at Goodison Park.
The Cherries are safe and have lost their last three since securing their status in the Premier League for another season. Thus, Leicester's survival hopes are slim, and many have resigned themselves to the idea of the Foxes competing in the second tier next season.
