Perhaps lost amid the start to the 2023/24 season was the first round of the Carabao Cup.

It's certainly not the most exhilarating few days of football, although the first round this time out did conjure up some drama.

We're still a round away from the Premier League's big boys joining in, with those that failed to secure European football last season entering the competition in the second round. The ties are set to take place at the end of the month, and here's how you can watch the televised encounters.

When does the Carabao Cup 2023/24 second round start?

The 2023/24 Carabao Cup second round fixtures will be spread out over two days on Tuesday 29 August and Wednesday 30 August.

The vast majority of the second round ties will take place on the Tuesday, with just five of the 24 fixtures scheduled on Wednesday 30.

What are the biggest fixtures in the Carabao Cup 2023/24 third round?

While we're still at an early stage of the competition, the Carabao Cup second round draw did throw up some interesting ties.

Tottenham Hotspur's punishment for failing to qualify for Europe was entry into the second round, and they've been paired against fellow Premier League club Fulham which is the standout fixture of the bunch.

Chelsea, who endured a wretched campaign last time out, host League Two side AFC Wimbledon at Stamford Bridge.

A couple of big clubs are on upset alert, including Leeds United (away at Salford), Everton (away at Doncaster) and Brentford (away at Newport).

There is one other all-Premier League affair to keep an eye on: Nottingham Forest host Vincent Kompany's Burnley for a place in the third round.
