Who is Bruno Saltor? Things to know about the Chelsea interim manager

Following Graham Potter's dismissal by Chelsea, the rumour mill has began to swirl about who will take the job next.

Julian Nagelsmann, Zinedine Zidane, Mauricio Pochettino's names have already been bandied about, but for now at least, Chelsea fans will see Bruno Saltor take temporary charge of their club.

Bruno has been confirmed as the interim coach of the club until a new permanent manager is found, with Todd Boehly stating: "We all will be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season", when announcing Bruno's temporary charge of the Blues.

So, who is he?

Bruno Saltor playing career

If Bruno looked oddly familar to you, that's probably because you seen one of his 235 games at Brighton and Hove Albion at some point.

The former right-back spent much of his career in his native Spain, enjoying spells at Espanyol, Gimnastic, Lleida, Almeria and Valencia, before joining Brighton as a free agent in June 2012.

Bruno would then go on to spend the rest of his career at the club, becoming the captain at the Amex Stadium as Brighton secured promotion to the Premier League and then later established themselves as a perennial top flight team.

After a hugely successful seven-year spell at the club, Bruno announced his retirement from football in 2019.

Following his retirement, Bruno took out a post as a 'senior development coach' at Brighton as part of Potter's coaching staff.

As well as becoming a key member of Potter's backroom staff in that period, Bruno also became a Football for Future climate champion, helping spread the word of the need for football to reduce it's carbon footprint.

As you might have guessed, Bruno was brought to Chelsea by Potter in September as part of his new Blues backroom staff.

Bruno joined Bjorn Hamberg - who had been a part of Potter's staff since his time at Ostersund in 2011 - in making the leap over to Chelsea.
