The games Kylian Mbappe will miss through injury
By Euan Burns
There are three players at Paris Saint-Germain that the fans never want to see get injured - Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe.
One of the latter two is probably at the top of the list, depending on who you ask, but unfortunately for PSG, it is Mbappe that has picked up an injury at a crucial juncture in the season.
The flamboyant Frenchman limped out of the 3-1 win over Montpellier in Ligue 1, leading to panic among PSG's supporters over whether he'll be fit to face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.
That panic was for good reason too, with PSG subsequently confirming Mbappe will be sidelined for three weeks. Here's the games, in addition to the Bayern tie, he'll miss...
Which PSG games will Kylian Mbappe miss through injury?
"Kylian took a blow behind the knee and on the muscle. Is it a contusion or a hematoma? We do not know yet. Regardless, it does not seem very serious. With the sequences of matches, we preferred not to take any risks. There's not too much to worry about."
Those were the words of Christophe Galtier in the immediate aftermath of Mbappe's injury, who inferred that the World Cup runner-up's withdrawal was precautionary rather than anything serious.
Galtier's PSG are top of Ligue 1 as you'd expect, but they have a hectic run of fixtures coming up because of the backlog of games pushed back for the winter World Cup in Qatar. Those include Ligue 1 games, as well as a clash with heavyweight rivals Marseille in the Coupe de France.
Mbappe will miss the following:
- PSG vs Toulouse (12th in Ligue 1) - February 4
- Marseille vs PSG (French Cup R16) - February 8
- Monaco (4th in Ligue 1) vs PSG - February 11
- PSG vs Bayern Munich (Champions League R16) - February 14
- PSG vs Lille (6th in Ligue 1) - February 19
There's a chance Mbappe could also miss the Ligue 1 game with Marseille on February 26, but the second leg tie against Bayern takes place three weeks after their first meeting on March 8 - ample time to recover.
Kylian Mbappe's form in 2022/23
As you would expect, Mbappe has been prolific this season. Amongst all the transfer talk and rumours of fallouts with the club, it can be easy to forget just how many goals he scores.
He has netted 13 times in Ligue 1 this season, along with two assists. His Champions League form was great too, scoring seven times in the group stages and getting three assists too. In between all of that, he scored five times at the 2022 World Cup, netting a hat-trick in a final that ended in defeat against Argentina.
