LAFC are one of the favorites heading into Leagues Cup 2024, and the Black and Gold will only get better once Olivier Giroud arrives.
Over the last few years, more and more European superstars have made the move to the MLS, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and now, Olivier Giroud. The all-time leading goalscorer for France finished his last season at AC Milan with 17 goals across all competitions, and officially signed with LAFC back in May on a Designated Player contract through 2025.
The striker's arrival in Los Angeles will give Steve Cherundolo's attack another dangerous piece ahead of the final stretch of the season. As of now, the Black and Gold are still behind rivals LA Galaxy in the Western Conference, and Giroud's elite goalscoring ability will be a welcomed addition to the squad, especially with Leagues Cup unfolding over the next month.
So, when can fans expect Olivier Giroud to debut for LAFC?
Will Olivier Giroud play in Leagues Cup 2024?
Olivier Giroud will likely play in Leagues Cup 2024. Although the extent of his participation in the tournament is currently unknown, the striker could easily debut for LAFC this summer if the Black and Gold make a deep run in the competition.
Giroud will surely miss LAFC's two Leagues Cup group stage matches, though, as the striker is enjoying a deserved break until August after competing for France at Euro 2024 this summer. His future teammates, meanwhile, will look to deliver two impressive performances against Club Tijuana and the Vancouver Whitecaps to advance to the knockout rounds.
Should the club and Giroud both decide he is fit and ready to compete sooner rather than later, then the 37-year-old could make an appearance anytime from the Round of 32, beginning on Aug. 7, to the Leagues Cup 2024 final, on Aug. 25.
Once Giroud arrives in Los Angeles, the timetable of his debut will become a lot clearer.
