Will Wrexham play in the Premier League in 2024?
- Wrexham A.F.C. is the oldest club in Wales
- The team spent 15 years out of the English Football League before 2023
- Wrexham secured back-to-back promotions in 2023 and 2024
After Wrexham's recent promotion sparked countless headlines and massive celebrations, fans are wondering if the oldest club in Wales will finally play in the Premier League in 2024.
Thanks to Wrexham's new owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and an Emmy award-winning docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham, Wrexham A.F.C. quickly captivated the hearts of soccer fans across the globe. Even King Charles III and Prince William visited the STōK Cae Ras to experience the magic so brilliantly captured in the critically acclaimed series.
With each new season of the show, more and more fans became invested in both the team and the city, so much so that a fairytale ending (or promotion) for Wrexham seemed inevitable, as long as the players delivered on the pitch.
Fortunately, the squad finally managed to break out of the National League and secure back-to-back promotions in the last two years, but was it enough to send them to England's top league?
Will Wrexham play in the Premier League in 2024?
No, Wrexham will not play in the Premier League in 2024. The fan-favorite club will play in League One come the start of the 2024/25 season.
Prior to Wrexham's rise to fame, the team spent 15 years away from the English Football League. The Red Dragons were stuck in the National League from 2008 to 2023, and the dream of returning to the EFL seemed futile.
Then, in a magical year perfect for Hollywood, Wrexham tallied 34 wins, including a clinching 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood, in the 2022/23 season that ended with them becoming National League Champions. Even better, the club earned their promotion to League Two.
The Welsh side followed up their record-breaking season with another success story that ended with a promotion to League One for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
To get to the Premier League, though, Wrexham must make it to the Championship and then secure a promotion to the most competitive league in the world, something the club has never achieved.
