Wolves have told their players that they are not allowed to head to the supermarket in order to reduce the risk of catching coronavirus.

With the new strain of the virus wreaking havoc across the UK, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo revealed that his players and their families have been instructed not to do the big shop in person.

The new strain has forced the Premier League to return to twice-a-week testing to ensure no games are postponed. Previously, players and staff at all Premier League clubs since the start of the 2020/21 season had only been tested on a weekly basis.

With infection rates climbing rapidly over the Christmas period, Liverpool and Everton remain the only teams who are allowed fans into their stadiums. All other top-flight clubs are either Tier 3 or 4, stopping any spectators from attending games.

Nuno explained the steps in which Wolves had taken before the new outbreak, detailing the precautions put in place by the West Midlands club.

"Since the beginning of the pandemic, our staff in the kitchen put together a big box of the basic things that we need and during the high moment of the pandemic, everybody had it," Nuno said (via BBC Football).

"As it started to improve, we said: 'OK, now you are free to go and do your own shopping.' But now the levels are increasing and there is the new variation that everybody is worried about, we started to do it again. So the players and their families are not going to the supermarkets.

Another setback in the road to normality, Nuno outlined the importance of the measure for the Tier 3 club, just as Manchester City reported two of their players, Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker, contracted the virus on Christmas Day.

"It is about protecting ourselves. There are so many people to take care of us."
