Women's World Cup 2023: Team of the tournament
GK: Mary Earps (England) - Only beaten from open play by the highest quality goals and saved a penalty in the final that kept the Lionesses in the game right to the end.
RB: Ellie Carpenter (Australia) - Furthered her case to be considered one of the world's very best right-backs in a tournament that was initially tough for the co-hosts.
CB: Irene Paredes (Spain) - No longer captain but played every minute of the tournament and was the senior Spanish defender alongside a couple of different centre-back partners.
CB: Amanda Ilestedt (Sweden) - Solid at the back yet also a consistent goalscoring threat, netting four times over the course of the World Cup - more than all but one player at the tournament.
LB: Olga Carmona (Spain) - Lifted the World Cup trophy as Spain captain after a monumental contribution, having scored the winning goal in both the semi-final and final.
CM: Aitana Bonmati (Spain) - Walked away with the Golden Ball as player of the tournament and was pulling strings for her team since day one. It would have been a travesty had she missed out.
CM: Teresa Abelleira (Spain) - Announced herself as a world class deep-lying playmaker, picking key passes and expertly screening in front of the back four at every stage.
CM: Georgia Stanway (England) - The Bayern Munich star has really matured over the last couple of years and was the energy that the Lionesses needed in a few otherwise sluggish team performances.
RW: Hinata Miyazawa (Japan) - Went no further than the quarter-finals but dominated the group stage and ultimately picked up the Golden Boot as outright top scorer.
ST: Lauren Hemp (England) - Few would have expected to see her in a 'number nine' role when the World Cup began, yet it was a new position in which she thrived.
LW: Salma Paralluelo (Spain) - Came off the bench to score in both the quarter-final and semi-final, as well as posing incredible danger to England in the final itself.
