Wrexham 3-1 Boreham Wood: Red Dragons secure promotion to League Two

Wrexham's long-awaited promotion back to the Football League was cinched on Saturday with a 3-1 win against Boreham Wood at the Racecourse Ground.

The Red Dragons will play in League Two for the first time since 2008 next season after at last gaining an unassailable lead over second-placed Notts County, moving onto 110 points with one match remaining.

But a day of festivities in Wales was under threat from the off when Boreham Wood scored inside the first minute. Lee Ndlovu was found with a ball over the top, and he kept it in the air with an instinctive lob over Ben Foster which nestled into the net.

Boreham Wood were unbeaten in their previous 43 (forty-three!) league games after scoring first, but they were quickly pegged back when Ryan Barnett's cross found a free Elliot Lee, who headed home with ease.

That goal kicked Wrexham into life, with Paul Mullin twice going close and the hosts establishing their dominance before the interval.

And just after the break, their talisman fired them ahead. Mullin wriggled his way inside from the left channel and let fly from just inside the box, finding the far top corner with an unbelievable strike.

With Boreham Wood trying to get a foothold in the game again, Wrexham added a third heading into the final 20 minutes. Mullin ran right at the visitors' defence, twisting and turning before unleashing another unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

The Racecourse Ground was bouncing from there on in as Wrexham's promotion as National League winners was confirmed.
