Wycombe 1-4 Tottenham: Player ratings as strong Spurs side survive FA Cup scare

Tottenham edged past Championship strugglers Wycombe to reach the FA Cup round of 16, but were made to work for it as strikes from Gareth Bale, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele overturned an opener from Fred Onyedinma.

The Championship side found themselves into a shock lead when striker Uche Ikpeazu powered past Toby Alderweireld and found Onyedinma in the area, who forced the ball beyond Joe Hart from 12 yards.

Spurs didn't panic though and responded by peppering the Wycombe goal. Moussa Sissoko and Japhet Tanganga hit the woodwork, before Bale - who had spurned two good chances earlier in the game - lifted Lucas Moura's cross beyond Ryan Allsop in the Chairboys' goal.

Wycombe played with a high tempo in the first half but struggled to sustain that as the game wore on. They defended admirably, though, and looked for all the world as if they would at least be heading to extra-time, before Harry Winks' strike from the edge of the area broke the Championship side's hearts.

Substitute Tanguy Ndombele then netted twice with what little time was remaining to make it absolutely sure it was the Premier League team going into the hat for the round of 16.

Tottenham player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Joe Hart (GK) - 6/10 - Dealt well with a few dangerous Wycombe set-pieces but hardly got a clear look at the ball outside of the first half hour.

Japhet Tanganga (RB) - 5/10 - Should have equalised with a close-range header in the first half but had a decent first half before being sacrificed for Hojbjerg at the break.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - 5/10 - Struggled to cope with Ikpeazu at times and was turned too easily for the opening goal.

Davinson Sanchez (CB) - 6/10 - Wasteful in his distribution as he favoured long balls forward. Won most of his duels though and was generally solid defensively.

Ben Davies (LB) - 7/10 - Had plenty to do in the first half as Wycombe targeted the Spurs left flank but turned in a battling performance and put in a tireless end-to-end shift.

2. Midfielders

Moussa Sissoko (CM) - 5/10 - Ineffectual in midfield in the first half and was shifted out to right-back in the second, where he delivered a passable display.

Harry Winks (CM) - 6/10 - Saw plenty of the ball but was unambitious with his passing in a game where he would have been expected to take a few risks. Great finish for the winner.

Erik Lamela (CAM) - 6/10 - Had the air of a headless chicken in a central attacking midfield role at times but was the most creative player in a congested engine room. Didn't hide at any stage and showed a desire to get on the ball before making way for Ndombele.

3. Forwards

Gareth Bale (RW) - 7/10 - Spurs' game often seemed geared towards getting him on the ball and getting out of the way. He enjoyed the responsibility and made up for his early wastefulness when he finally got his breakthrough on the brink of half-time.

Vinicius (CF) - 4/10 - Hold-up play was sub par as he struggled to find space behind a disciplined Wycombe back line, before he was replaced by Kane.

Lucas Moura (LW) - 7/10 - Was Spurs' most dangerous attacker while he was on and made more key passes than any other player before being brought off for Son. Faded out of the game prior to his withdrawal, but delivered a lovely assist for Bale and can have no complaints about his display.

4. Substitutes

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tanganga, 46) - 6/10 - Made a real difference to a Spurs midfield that was passive without him.

Harry Kane (Vinicius, 58) - 6/10 - Had some, erm, specialist attention from the Wycombe defence after he was brought on to salvage the tie. Should have scored on 70 minutes but was denied by quick thinking from Allsop.

Son Heung-min (Moura, 68) - 5/10 - Sent one of Tottenham's best chances over the bar and generally struggled to make the sort of impact he would have expected.

Tanguy Ndombele (Lamela, 68) - 8/10 - Joined in with the late Spurs onslaught scoring twice to seal the victory, with two ice cold finishes.

Joe Rodon (Davies, 89) - N/A - Late sub as Davies went off with cramp.
