X reacts as Liverpool strike late to earn draw with Man City
- Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a record-breaking goal
- Trent Alexander-Arnold equalised after the break
- Man City remain one point above Liverpool in the Premier League table
Manchester City and Liverpool duked out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with Trent Alexander-Arnold's equaliser cancelling out Erling Haaland's landmark opener.
Alisson's worst game in a Liverpool shirt arguably came against City two years ago, with Sky Sports cruelly dubbing an error-strewn display: "Alisson in Blunderland". Liverpool's normally supreme shot-stopper strayed back towards that nadir during a nervy opening half-hour.
Alisson's fragile display was underscored by Ederson's nerveless performance at the opposite end, with City's custodian threading one particularly outrageous pass between two lines of red shirts to set his side haring forward in the first half.
Liverpool's number one had evaded a number of heart-in-mouth moments before ceding possession with a horribly sliced drop kick directly before Erling Haaland's 27th-minute opener.
Alisson was looking for Mohamed Salah's breakaway run - a routine which has worked for Liverpool in the past - yet instead presented Nathan Ake with the ball inside his team's half. The Dutch defender deftly tiptoed between a crowd of red shirts before sliding the ball across for Haaland to score his 50th Premier League goal.
Haaland was only making his 48th appearance in England's top flight, amassing half a century of strikes quicker than any other player in Premier League history.
While Haaland naturally stole the headlines with yet another record-breaking goal, Bernardo Silva once again starred for City in a high-profile game.
Jeremy Doku, starting in place of the absent Jack Grealish, wasn't too shabby either.
Liverpool had enjoyed the better of a subdued second half but failed to seriously test Ederson. Jurgen Klopp made two changes before the hour mark but it was the hosts who thought they had found the net in the 68th minute.
Ruben Dias turned the ball over the line from close range but Manuel Akanji was adjudged to have fouled Alisson by the on-pitch referee Chris Kavanagh. VAR Stuart Attwell agreed that there was no clear and obvious error and allowed the game to swiftly proceed.
Within ten minutes, Trent Alexander-Arnold legally found the back of the net to equalise for Liverpool. Just 26 seconds earlier, Alisson had denied Haaland from close range after Doku wriggled unopposed down Alexander-Arnold's flank.
After a difficult afternoon - Alexander-Arnold had already been dribbled past on five separate occasions when he took aim - Liverpool's vice-captain muzzled his critics and an already subdued Etihad with a crisp drive into the bottom corner. Fittingly, Alexander-Arnold put his finger to his lips in celebration.
An oddly sedate clash between the division's top two ended with a brief flare up between Darwin Nunez and City manager Pep Guardiola, with Klopp dragging his striker away at the final whistle.
