Zinedine Zidane has stated that he wouldn't be shocked if he were to be sacked for failing to guide Real Madrid to the knockout stages of this season's Champions League.

Los Blancos are precariously poised in Group B having only won two and drawn one of their five games so far, sitting in third place.

They need to beat Borussia Monchengladbach at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano on Wednesday night in order to secure qualification to the round of 16.

When asked if he would be surprised to be relieved of his duties if Madrid fail to qualify, Zidane said (as quoted by ESPN): "No. The club will do what it has to do, as always.

"I am not thinking about that, I'm thinking about tomorrow's game. The club will do things as it always has. I don't think about that, honestly."

Real Madrid have secured qualification from the group stage for 23 years in a row, and have never been eliminated at the first hurdle in this format of the Champions League.

The possibility that Madrid could be playing Europa League football in February is a very real one, but Zidane insists it is not a thought that he is giving any time to.

"I don't think about the Europa League, I don't contemplate anything else. The players are the same. You [the media] can think and give your opinion, it's your job. We only think about playing a great game," he added (via Goal).

"All the players and the club are used to playing under pressure. We are used to playing games like this. We know what is at stake.

"We have to manage our emotions and above all prepare things well. The important thing is that inside we prepare the game well."

Monchengladbach only need a draw in order to secure their place in the last 16, and have already taken a point off Madrid in the competition this season, albeit after surrendering a 2-0 lead late on at Borussia-Park.
