The Premier League have revealed the shortlists for the first Player and Manager of the Month awards of the 2024/25 season.

Eight players feature on the list of nominees, with fan votes set to be combined with the view of a panel of experts to decide a winner next week.

As for managers, there are four bosses in the running this time around. Here's a look at all the nominees for August 2024.

  • Erling Haaland (Man City)
  • Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)
  • Amadou Onana (Aston Villa)
  • Cole Palmer (Chelsea)
  • David Raya (Arsenal)
  • Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
  • Danny Welbeck (Brighton)

With seven goals in just three games, Erling Haaland is an obvious contender. With a goal against Chelsea followed by hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham United, the Norwegian has enjoyed the greatest goalscoring start to a campaign in league history.

Bryan Mbeumo may not have hit such ludicrous heights, but his return of three goals in as many games is still sensational. Stepping up for an Ivan Toney-less Brentford, Mbeumo scored against Crystal Palace before putting two past Southampton.

New signing Amadou Onana has made an immediate impact with Aston Villa. Wins over West Ham and Leicester City were inspired by his goals as Villa maintained their strong form from last season.

Cole Palmer's Chelsea played just twice in August (his assist against Crystal Palace came on September 1) but his numbers continue to impress. He ran the show in a 6-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, netting a glorious lob and setting up all three of Noni Madueke's goals.

The only team with two nominees this month is Arsenal. Gunners stopper David Raya earns a nod thanks to two clean sheets and two outrageous saves to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen and Ollie Watkins, while the one goal and three assists of Bukayo Saka earn him a spot on the shortlist.

It's been a brilliant start to the season for Mohamed Salah. Liverpool's talisman bagged two goals and an assist from the first two games of the Arne Slot era and has helped produce a perfect start to the season for his side.

Rounding out the shortlist is Brighton forward Danny Welbeck. A huge performance against Everton was followed by a crucial goal against former employers Manchester United in the Seagulls' unbeaten start to the campaign.

Arne Slot

  • Pep Guardiola (Man City)
  • Arne Slot (Liverpool)
  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton)

Manchester City ended August at the top of the Premier League table as one of just two teams with a perfect record. Pep Guardiola oversaw comprehensive victories over Chelsea, Ipswich and West Ham to help his push to win the award for the first time since December 2021.

Arne Slot's start to life at Liverpool could hardly have gone better. Many predicted some teething issues for Jurgen Klopp's replacement, but 2-0 wins over Ipswich and Brentford put those concerns to bed. This nomination does not even factor in the 3-0 win away at Man Utd on September 1.

Arsenal remain unbeaten this season after two wins and a draw under Mikel Arteta, whose smart substitutions have already yielded success. Leandro Trossard scored just seconds after being introduced against Aston Villa.

Speaking of new arrivals, Brighton and Fabian Hurzeler have caught many by surprise. The 31-year-old, whose squad includes five players who are older than him, has navigated a tricky fixture list almost seamlessly, beating Everton and Man Utd before battling to a 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
