Fans can appreciate those who prevent the goals from going in, but it's ultimately the folk doing the scoring who sell the tickets.

Fortunately, the Premier League is home to a fair few who know exactly where the back of the net is. The arrival of Erling Haaland has transcended what many once thought to be possible from a goalscoring perspective in this division and the Nordic superstar is on the prowl once again in 2024/25.

A deviation away from wingers who hit the byline and cross means wide players have emerged as regular scorers themselves and some of the league's finest inside forwards are among those most likely to challenge Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

Here's how 90min ranks the best forwards in the Premier League at the start of the 2024/25 season.

10. Jarrod Bowen (new entry)

Bowen has been ever so reliable for West Ham as a goalscorer, and he netted his first strike of 2024/25 at Crystal Palace in trademark Jarrod Bowen fashion.

The opportunistic winger was donning the captain's armband while sealing the Hammers' first win of the new Premier League season.

9. Savinho (new entry)

Yep, City have got a good one in Savinho. While cynics will understandably decry the nature of the transfer, the Cityzens are now poised to benefit from the Brazilian's mature talent.

He was ever so bright in the first half against Chelsea, and the Riyad Mahrez regen played a key role in City's early blitz on Matchday 2 as Ipswich Town were put to the sword after taking a shock early lead. Savinho may have already become a Pep Guardiola favourite.

8. Danny Welbeck (new entry)

The seasoned striker has started 2024/25 in fine fettle. After scoring emphatically amid a comfortable win at Everton to open up the new campaign, Welbeck's poacher's instincts paid dividends as he netted the first in Brighton's 2-1 win over Manchester United on Fabian Hurzeler's home Premier League bow.

The former United forward has quickly garnered the trust of the new manager, and he may well be in for a career year on the South Coast.

7. Kai Havertz (-2)

Kai Havertz endured an inconspicuous start to life as a Gooner, but a switch to a number nine role has been the making of the German.

Havertz came on strong down the stretch last season, proving himself to be more than a forward who runs around plenty and wins headers. The former Chelsea man certainly knows where the goal is and his 2024/25 campaign started with a brave header to open the scoring against Wolves.

6. Son Heung-min (new entry)

Son responded from a disappointing outing at Leicester by recording a brace in Spurs' rout of Everton.

The South Korean's second finish from an acute angle made you further question how exactly he missed that one-on-one with Stefan Ortega which cost Arsenal the Premier League title last season.

5. Noni Madueke (new entry)

Wolverhampton's arch-nemesis really rubbed salt into the wounds at Molineux as Madueke netted a lightning-quick hat-trick to help earn Enzo Maresca his first Premier League win as manager.

Madueke enjoyed a bright pre-season, and he benefitted from the creative spirit of a certain Chelsea playmaker in the West Midlands. The winger's three strikes were almost identical.

4. Cole Palmer (new entry)

After a quiet outing against Man City, some questioned whether Maresca's reduced emphasis on individual empowerment would inhibit Palmer. Ha ha.

The England international responded in a big way on Matchday 2, opening his account with a cheeky finish over Jose Sa before helping Madueke to his hat-trick with a string of assists from an inside right position.

3. Bukayo Saka (-)

Bukayo Saka stood up for his country at Euro 2024 and emerged in key moments to aid England's progression through the rounds.

The loveable winger now boasts an air of inevitability and it was he has delivered the key moments for Arsenal through the first two weeks of the season. Saka already has three goal contributions.

If only he was offered more respite by his manager.

2. Mohamed Salah (-)

While Saka is beginning to develop that inevitable trait, Mohamed Salah has had it for years.

The Egyptian has headed into the new campaign with a new look and the physically supreme winger certainly means business. Salah grew into Liverpool's season opener at Portman Road and should have ended the contest with a hat-trick. Instead, Salah had to settle for a single strike as he kept up his impressive opening-day record.

The winger then sealed Liverpool's Matchday 2 triumph over Brentford with a precise finish.

1. Erling Haaland (-)

No, Mr Cucurella, Erling Haaland is not trembling.

Man City's imperious goal machine opened his 2024/25 account at the first time of asking as City overpowered Chelsea, sitting down his Spanish foe before producing a tidy finish at Stamford Bridge.

Haaland snatched his second consecutive Golden Boot in what some might have considered a down year and looks poised to challenge the remarkable scoring haul he achieved two seasons ago. It only took him two weeks to record his first hat-trick of the new season.
