Thomas Frank has been named as the latest contender to take over at Manchester United, if the club decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have made headlines for all the wrong reasons this season, with the team set for their worst ever Premier League finish. While the future of manager Erik ten Hag is still undecided, a new candidate has arisen to replace him at Old Trafford.

That candidate is, of course, Brentford boss Thomas Frank, who has enjoyed five successful seasons in charge of the Bees.

Reports from The Telegraph state that Frank has admirers at United and also has an existing relationship with co-owners Ineos.

The Danish boss joined Brentford in 2016 as an assistant head coach, while the team were in the Championship. He was named manager in 2018 and has since earned the team promotion to the Premier League, and ensured them of a top-flight status for three seasons.

If Frank was to join United, however, it is thought his role would change significantly, as the Old Trafford side wish to appoint a head coach to focus solely on on-the-field matters. The head coach role would work alongside Dan Ashworth - who is set to become the new sporting director - and technical director Jason Wilcox.

With just two games remaining for the Red Devils this season, all eyes will be on Ten Hag. While the Dutchman is contracted until 2025, his tenure at the club is widely expected to end before then.

If Frank was to be given the position at United, he would become the fifth manager at Old Trafford in the last five years, succeeding Ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United return to action on Wednesday when they host Newcastle in their penultimate game of the season. They will then face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday to close out the campaign.
