Best Premier League midfielders - 2024/25 power rankings
- Premier League home to some of the world's best midfielders
- Man City's midfield key to past dominance under Pep Guardiola
- 2024/25 season power rankings fluctuates based on form over the campaign
England is no longer a land where box-to-box fiends rule. The era of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard is no more.
Still, that doesn't mean there's been a great reduction in quality. Anything but. Instead, the Premier League is home to a variety of midfield profiles each boasting their own unique brilliance.
The box-to-boxer does remain, only not as prevalent, with press resisters growing in prominence as of late given the desires of teams to win possession back high up the pitch. There's also a glut of outstanding attacking midfielders who have all the keys required to pick whichever lock is placed in front of them.
90min ranks the Premier League's best midfielders based on their 2024/25 performances.
5. Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham) ⬇️
Dejan Kulusevski has played the majority of his Tottenham career out on the wing, but a move inside has taken his game to a whole new level.
Able to dictate the play and drive forward with the ball, the Swede is operating with a previously unseen verve and purpose, forming a tremendous partnership with Pape Matar Sarr in the process.
4. Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) ⬆️
Moises Caicedo's first 12 months at Chelsea were nothing short of an unmitigated disaster, even he would probably admit.
The Ecuadorian cost an eye bursting £115m and penned an eight-year contract, immediately placing incredible pressure on his young shoulders to perform and justify the price tag.
Now, with Enzo Maresca as his head coach, Caicedo is starting to show the form that made him one of Brighton's best ever imports.
3. Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool) ⬇️
For most of Jurgen Klopp's final season at Liverpool, Ryan Gravenberch was forced to sit on the sideline and patient wait for an opportunity.
It led many to believe that the former Bayern Munich midfielder just simply wasn't cut out for life in the Premier League, particularly as the unheralded Wataru Endo earned regular minutes.
But under Arne Slot, the Dutchman has found a new lease of life, providing a stability and backbone that Liverpool had sought in failed transfer target Martin Zubimendi.
2. Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) ⬆️
With Ivan Toney out of the picture at Brentford, manager Thomas Frank needed Bryan Mbeumo to step up and deliver on the potential he'd previously shown at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Cameroonian has done that in spades full, taking centre stage with a number of important goals and outstanding performances.
1. Cole Palmer (Chelsea) ↔️
In August 2023, Cole Palmer was thrust into the spotlight as Chelsea plucked him away from Manchester City with the promise of regular football.
Not many Palmer to deliver a 25-goal debut season at Stamford Bridge, nor did many expect him to continue the momentum as the Blues charged into another cycle under yet another head coach.
But Palmer has done just that, proving he's already one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.
