England is no longer a land where box-to-box fiends rule. The era of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard is no more.

Still, that doesn't mean there's been a great reduction in quality. Anything but. Instead, the Premier League is home to a variety of midfield profiles each boasting their own unique brilliance.

The box-to-boxer does remain, only not as prevalent, with press resisters growing in prominence as of late given the desires of teams to win possession back high up the pitch. There's also a glut of outstanding attacking midfielders who have all the keys required to pick whichever lock is placed in front of them.

90min ranks the Premier League's best midfielders based on their 2024/25 performances.

5. Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth) ↔️

Justin Kluivert arrives in our top five off the back of an extraordinary few months. The talisman of a swashbuckling Bournemouth side, the Dutch dynamo has scored 11 times in the Premier League since the beginning of November, with a particularly eye-catching January earning him the competition's Player of the Month award.

Deployed in an attacking midfield role for the Cherries, Kluivert has dazzled with his ingenuity in the final third - as well as a couple of thunderbolts from range. The delicate and fleet-footed number ten has thrived in a new-look position and has caused issues for even the division's best midfield units.

4. Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) - New entry

Nottingham Forest have built their success on a rock solid spine, with an exceptional defence and in-form Chris Wood crucial to their improvements. But the impact of Morgan Gibbs-White in attacking midfield cannot be overlooked.

The England international has been mightily impressive supporting the relentless Wood this term, popping up with some pivotal goals and assists at key junctures.

The silky 25-year-old often flies under the radar but his ascent deserves recognition. He should be playing Champions League football next year, too.

3. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - New entry

Where would Manchester United be without Bruno Fernandes? Even during a dismal campaign for the Red Devils in which they have spent an alarming amount of time in the bottom half of the table, their skipper has stepped up to the plate when required.

The Portuguese's consistency is remarkable in a struggling side and he has often been United's sole creative force in the Premier League this term. When they need a moment of inspiration, he's the man who serves it up.

The largely woeful performances of the Red Devils cannot overshadow what has been another fantastic individual campaign for Fernandes.

2. Cole Palmer (Chelsea) ↔️

In August 2023, Cole Palmer was thrust into the spotlight as Chelsea plucked him away from Manchester City with the promise of regular football.

Not many backed Palmer to deliver anything close to a 25-goal debut season at Stamford Bridge, nor did many expect him to continue the momentum as the Blues charged into another cycle under yet another head coach.

But Palmer has done just that, proving he's already one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.

1. Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool) ↔️

For most of Jurgen Klopp's final season at Liverpool, Ryan Gravenberch was forced to sit on the sideline and patiently wait for an opportunity.

It led many to believe that the former Bayern Munich midfielder just simply wasn't cut out for life in the Premier League, particularly as the unheralded Wataru Endo earned regular minutes.

But under Arne Slot, the Dutchman has found a new lease of life, providing the stability and backbone that Liverpool had sought in failed transfer target Martin Zubimendi.

Gravenberch has emerged as the perfect holding midfielder for the table-topping Reds.
