Premier League predictions: Who will win the 2024/25 Golden Boot?
- Erling Haaland the overwhelming favourite to win the Golden Boot award
- Prolific Norwegian has picked up prize in both of his seasons at Manchester City
- 90min predicts who will win the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards
The 2023/24 Golden Boot race proved to one of the more thrilling in recent memory, with Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Erling Haaland all vying for the award up until the last few weeks of the season.
Expectedly, it was Haaland who came out on top, netting a whopping 27 goals in just 31 league appearances.
So will Haaland make it three Golden Boots in three Premier League seasons in 2024/25? Or will someone else come along and win the prize?
The writers and editors from 90min have given their Golden Boot predictions, as well as who they think will win the Playmaker Award.

When you've scored 63 goals in 66 Premier League appearances, breaking the record for most goals scored in a single campaign (36), and are the premier striker in world football, it's pretty hard to overlook you for the Golden Boot. Yes, Erling Haaland is the player in question and yes, the award is his to lose.
Things may be a little more interesting on the Playmaker award front. Ollie Watkins showed last season for Aston Villa that he can not only score a truckload of goals, he can set a whole bunch up too. That output may diminish this time, however, with Champions League fun serving as a distraction.
Martin Odegaard, Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes should all be up there, but it's Chelsea wonderboy Cole Palmer who gets the nod from me. Matching the standards he set in his first season at Stamford Bridge will be extremely difficult, but his cameo showings at Euro 2024 suggest Palmer will again be the star turn in west London, both in terms of goals scored and goals set up.

It's boring, but it's hard to look past Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot. In a 'down season' the man scored 27 goals in 31 games during 2023/24, and if he scores anywhere near that many this campaign he'll comfortably secure his third consecutive Golden Boot award.
In terms of setting things up, Bruno Fernandes is a top shout for winning the Playmaker award. He takes all of Manchester United's set pieces, he'll play every game, he'll have a few more options to play the ball to in the offensive third this season, and he's just bloody brilliant.

I've got some huge expert insight into who could win the Golden Boot this season. Erling Haaland has claimed it in the last two seasons and loves to stat-pad in the games that City absolutely cruise to victory in. While not beyond the realms of possibility, it would be a huge shock if the Norwegian didn't scoop the award for a third season in a row.
Kevin De Bruyne would also be the dull pick for the Playmaker award in 2024/25, but I'm going to select Arsenal's Martin Odegaard instead. The midfield wizard grabbed ten in the Premier League last season, behind only Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer, and has the quality to bag more than anyone else in the upcoming campaign.

Erling Haaland is the boring answer for Golden Boot winner but that's because it's also the most obvious one. If he stays fit, he's scoring over 30 goals again, and few players in the division can even dream of matching that tempo.
Kevin De Bruyne will hope to lead the assist charts and, after Belgium's short summer, may have finally managed the rest needed to stay on the pitch long enough to get the Playmaker award.

Listen, it's incredibly hard to say 'Erling Haaland is really good' enough times without it being boring. So let me do a Joey Tribbiani and use the thesaurus on every word - Erling Haaland is very exquisite and he will attain quantities of holy grails this year (he will win the Golden Boot).
With Joshua Zirkzee coming in the Old Trafford doors, Man Utd may finally have an attack that makes sense on the pitch as much as on paper.
The main beneficiary of that will be chief creator Bruno Fernandes, who will have another selfless player to lean on and help open up space for the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford to attack. That could lead the Portuguese to win the Playmaker award.

Erling Haaland will once again win the Golden Boot - it's boring but it's true. His ability to score goals at such a rate can't be matched by any other player, and while I don't think City will win the title this season, I do think Haaland will be a machine in front of goal.
In terms of the Playmaker award, my eggs are going in the Arsenal basket. Martin Odegaard will have an incredible season, provide plenty of chances and lift the Premier League trophy when it's all said and done.
Mikel Arteta's system allows for Odegaard's creative side to flourish, evidenced by the fact he carved out more chances from open play than any other player in the Premier League last season. If he stays fit, Arsenal succeed.

Erling Haaland has basically scored a goal per game since moving to the Premier League. He only played 31 times last season because of injury and still hit the net 27 times, so it’s a brave person that bets against him landing a third successive Golden Boot. As long as he’s on the pitch, he will score.
Kevin De Bruyne is assists. He only played 18 Premier League games last season and still set up ten goals. The year before, he got 18 assists and in 2019/20 equalled the single season Premier League record with 20.
He’s 33 now, but as long as he doesn’t have another campaign plagued by injuries like his 2023/24 was, it’s a given that, in this Manchester City team, with Erling Haaland playing in front of him, assists will rack up. Cole Palmer will be competition again for the Playmaker award, while Ollie Watkins, who was last season’s assist leader, could drop off as Aston Villa contend with Champions League football.

While it would be far more fun to go rogue and suggest Jamie Vardy for the Golden Boot, it's going to be Erling Haaland again. Barring injury, there is just no way he doesn't hit at least 25 goals next term - and probably many, many more.
I'm backing a Norwegian double act for the 2024/25 season. While Haaland is banging them in for Man City, Martin Odegaard is going to be setting them up for Arsenal on the road to another heated title race. He got ten last season and I can envisage him adding another three or four to that tally. Playmaker award incoming.

Erling Haaland won't beat his own single season record for goals, but you'd imagine the Nordic machine will come pretty close. He's the obvious Golden Boot winner.
I've bought into the 'Last Dance' narrative and predict that Kevin De Bruyne will take home the Playmaker award before jetting off to the riches of the Gulf. He and Haaland are an unstoppable tandem and their last season together could be particularly fruitful.
