The 2024/25 Premier League standings without VAR and referee mistakes
- VAR continues to divide opinion among players, managers and supporters
- Bournemouth most negatively affected by VAR decisions
- Newcastle and Leicester have had the rub of the green this term
VAR. The three letters that strike most fear into football fans across the country.
Technology continues to take centre stage on a weekly basis in the Premier League, with the implementation of video assistants doing little to aid the discourse surrounding officials in England.
Every fanbase believes they are the victims of VAR's cruel bias but which clubs are actually being negatively impacted by technology?
Well, Squawka have been asking supporters on social media to vote on controversial decisions each week this season, offering a glimpse of which clubs are finding themselves short-changed by referees.

*Table reflects alternate standings without VAR 'errors'. Any penalties that should have been won have been awarded as goals.
In the alternate universe in which VAR is implemented perfectly, the Premier League table doesn't look drastically different from it's current state. Liverpool still lead the way at the summit under Arne Slot and an underwhelming start to the campaign sees Manchester City trailing them by five points in second. However, both sides would be two points worse off.
Nothing would change from Chelsea in third to Fulham in seventh, with all five teams - including the ill-disciplined Arsenal - earning the exact same amount of points. However, Aston Villa would be a place higher in the table and the side currently in eighth in real life, Newcastle United, would be a remarkable five places lower.
The Magpies would have earned two fewer points this term if it were not for VAR 'errors', with three big decisions having gone in their favour. Bournemouth would overtake them, with the Cherries having been the most negatively impacted due to VAR in terms of league position.
Erik ten Hag was unfortunate with a VAR call in the match that ultimately cost him his job, with Manchester United rising two places in the alternate table from their real-life position of 13th. Ruben Amorim starts his life as Red Devils boss in Gameweek 12 and will be keen to have luck on his side in the early weeks of his reign.
Crystal Palace have endured a rotten start to the season but they have been unfortunate to be on the wrong end of three VAR decisions. They've also had none in their favour, although they would only be two points better off.
Leicester City have been the side most fortunate towards the foot of the table. They would be three points and three places worse off had VAR made the 'right call' in every one of their games this term despite Steve Cooper's frequent referee rants.
