The 2024/25 Premier League season will see Manchester City look to retain their crown for a record fifth successive season.

The Cityzens saw off the challenge of Arsenal on the final day of the 2023/24 season, beating West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium to render the Gunners' win over Everton irrelevant.

Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, joined by Championship winners Leicester City and play-off final victors Southampton.

Key

  • 1-4 - UEFA Champions League qualification
  • 5-6 - UEFA Europa League qualification
  • 7 - UEFA Europa Conference League qualification
  • 18-20 - Relegation

How does winning FA Cup or Carabao Cup affect European qualification?

If the FA Cup or Carabao Cup winners finish in the top five of the Premier League, their Europa League group stage place will go to the next highest-ranked team not qualified for Europe in the Premier League.

If the winners finish outside those positions, they take the Europa League spot that would have been awarded to sixth place and they qualify for the Conference League instead. Seventh misses out altogether in that instance, like what happened to Newcastle United in May 2024 because eighth-place Manchester United won the FA Cup.

How does winning Champions League or Europa League affect European qualification?

The winners of each of these competitions automatically qualify for the following season's Champions League.

If a Premier League side that finishes in the top four wins either the Champions or Europa League, their position in Europe's premier club competition via league position will not be transferred to another team.

Should a Premier League club win the Champions League and another win the Europa League despite neither finishing in the top four, the side that finishes fourth in the Premier League will drop into the Europa League as only a maximum of five English teams can qualify for the Champions League.

This Europa League group stage place will be in addition to the one for the side that finishes fifth in the Premier League and the FA Cup victors (or the highest-ranked side that hasn't qualified for Europe if the winners of the FA Cup have already qualified via league position). Three teams will compete in the Europa League in this scenario.
