Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made a formal bid to sign Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, who is also wanted by Atletico Madrid.

Alvarez is believed to be unsettled at the Etihad Stadium due to a lack of minutes, having found himself stuck behind Erling Haaland in the pecking order under manager Pep Guardiola.

The striker has openly admitted his need to consider his options this summer but recently moved to cool the speculation as links to Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea began to emerge.

However, according to Gaston Edul, interest from PSG and Atletico continues to grow. The French side are said to have submitted a "formal offer" to lure Alvarez away this summer.

There is no mention of the fee involved but PSG's offer is expected to exceed an imminent bid from Atletico, who are readying a proposal worth €60m (£51.2m).

PSG's contract offer is also believed to exceed the terms proposed by Atletico, but the Spanish side still have an advantage as Alvarez would prefer to play in Madrid rather than Paris.

Guardiola was once again asked about Alvarez's future during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's pre-season friendly against Chelsea.

"No news," he stressed. "I don't have any news.

"Look, Julian deserves now to take his time, what he needs to come back clean. Not just in the legs – the people say it's the legs – it's especially stuff [in the mind].

"Because playing every three days in front of 65, 70,000 people, or 50, 55,000 people, is so exhausting; for the responsibility to do well. And any one of us, in front of 65,000, you don't want to perform bad.

"And it demands a lot, a lot of energy, not just physicality, the people don't understand it. And that's why they need breaks, and that's why they need holidays and they could not come here. The fans would love it, I would love it, but the players need rest."
