Real Madrid have no plans for Jude Bellingham to have surgery on a lingering shoulder problem, despite suggestions the England midfielder would go under the knife before the new season.

Bellingham dislocated his shoulder during a clash with Rayo Vallecano back in November. He missed two games – one in the Champions League against Braga and one in La Liga against Valencia – as well as withdrawing from the England squad for that month’s international friendlies.

Bellingham was soon back though, wearing a pad for protection but seemingly uninhibited by reported ongoing pain. In the end, he enjoyed an incredible season for Madrid and appeared to be unaffected by landing on the shoulder in question when he scored England's spectacular overhead kick equaliser against Slovakia in the last 16 at Euro 2024.

AS writes that Madrid's original plan for both Bellingham and Brahim Diaz, who also suffered a dislocated shoulder during the campaign, was to have surgery this summer. But that is no longer the case, with a club source telling the sports newspaper: "Neither of them has had surgery and we do not believe that it is in their plans, given what they agreed with the doctors."

Time could be a factor for Bellingham in particular. If England reach the European Championship final on 14 July, he would still be on international duty just two weeks before Madrid commence a pre-season tour of the United States at the end of the month. He needs time for a holiday and then the new La Liga campaign begins as soon as 18 August with a trip to Mallorca.

If Bellingham is generally untroubled by his shoulder because any lingering issues are being managed, avoiding going under a surgeon’s knife while it isn't absolutely necessary might be the smarter choice.
