There are few tighter bonds in football than Real Madrid and the Champions League, with the Spanish club aiming to reach the competition's showpiece event for the 18th time on Wednesday night.

The 14-time champions earned a 2-2 draw away in Munich last week to give them the upper hand in their semi-final tie with Thomas Tuchel's Bayern.

Madrid were confirmed as La Liga champions in between these two ties, with Carlo Ancelotti heavily rotating his starting XI for Saturday's 3-0 victory over Cadiz.

Wednesday's hosts have a clean bill of health for Bayern's visit and here's the starting lineup Ancelotti could pick for the game.

GK: Andriy Lunin - Thibaut Courtois is back! However, Lunin has earned the right to keep his place for the second leg.

RB: Dani Carvajal - Madrid missed Carvajal dearly in Munich with Lucas Vazquez struggling against the guile of Jamal Musiala. The Madrid stalwart will have to be at his very best to contain the masterful German.

CB: Antonio Rudiger - Rudiger has played a lot of football this season and his rest on Saturday was certainly well-earned.

CB: Nacho Fernandez - The captain started the first leg and has generally performed well this term. He seems to have grown in confidence as the season's gone on, though Eder Militao remains in contention.

LB: Ferland Mendy - Another who didn't play a single minute against Cadiz, Mendy is a shoo-in to replace Fran Garcia at left-back and duel Leroy Sane once again.

DM: Aurelien Tchouameni - Eduardo Camavinga so often performs at this stage of the competition, but Tchouameni, who was a minor injury doubt heading into the weekend, is likely to start over his compatriot.

CM: Toni Kroos - Bayern will probably think twice about giving their former midfielder an inch of breathing room on Wednesday after he opened the first leg up with a pinpoint pass for Vinicius Junior's opener.

CM: Federico Valverde - The indefatigable Uruguayan has been a constant in the Madrid XI this season for good reason and that's not going to change on Wednesday.

AM: Jude Bellingham - The critics were rapid to manifest following Bellingham's performance in Munich, but he was back on the scoresheet at the weekend and has typically delivered on the big occasion during hit debut season.

ST: Rodrygo - Ancelotti has found a way of maximising his strike partnership, with Rodrygo now tending to drift out to the left. The Brazilian performs somewhat of a free role in Madrid's attack.

ST: Vinicius Junior - Madrid's game-breaking superstar scored twice in Munich to ensure his side take a result into Wednesday's second leg. Vinicius has delivered time and time again for Los Blancos in the Champions League. Can he do it again?
