- The forward scored a stunning goal in the win
- Real Madrid have confirmed the extent of the injury
Real Madrid have confirmed that Vinicius Junior suffered a "cervical injury" in the win over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Brazilian superstar was in fine form on Saturday evening, thumping home a stunning goal from fully 25-yards out in order to secure all three points for Los Blancos in the second half. Just six minutes after scoring however, Vinicius was forced off with a suspected injury - being replaced by Arda Guler for the final 11 minutes of the game.
Madrid have now confirmed that the forward has suffered a cervical injury, which will be monitored by the club:
"Following tests carried out on our player Vinicius Junior, he has been diagnosed with a cervical injury. Pending evolution," read a statement on the club's official website.
It is unclear as of yet whether of not Vini will travel to South America to play for Brazil in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Peru during the October international break.
Unfortunately for Madrid, Vini's injury wasn't the only one suffered during the win over Villarreal. The club have also confirmed that Carvajal suffered an ACL rupture in a challenge with Yeremy Pino late in the win - an injury that will require the right-back to have surgery in the coming days.
In a statement released on Instagram, Carvajal addressed the injury, writing: "A serious injury to the cruciate ligament has been confirmed, I will have to undergo surgery and be off the pitch for a few months.
"I am already looking forward to starting the recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all very much for your messages, I feel very loved."
