Referee David Coote sacked by PGMOL
- Coote originally suspended after videos emerged appearing to show derogatory comments made about Jurgen Klopp
- FA launched independent investigation into Coote's conduct
- PGMOL terminate employment of the 42-year-old with immediate effect
Premier League referee David Coote has been sacked by the PGMOL after an investigation into his conduct.
The 42-year-old was initially suspended after videos, which remain unverified, appeared to show Coote calling former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp an "absolute c***" in addition to other derogatory comments.
An independent investigation into Coote's conduct was launched by the FA, with PGMOL now confirming that his employment as a referee has been terminated with immediate effect.
"Following the conclusion of a thorough investigation into Coote's conduct, his employment with PGMOL has been terminated today with immediate effect," a statement read.
"Coote's actions were found to be in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable. Supporting Coote continues to be important to us and we remain committed to his welfare.
"Coote has a right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment."
Coote denied subsequent allegations that he had discussed giving a yellow card to Ezgjan Alioski with a friend prior to Leeds United's clash with West Bromwich Albion in October 2019, after it was claimed by The Sun newspaper that he had done so.
"I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations," Coote said at the time.
"Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life, they have never affected my decision making on the field. I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability."
