Renee Slegers reveals stance on becoming Arsenal's new permanent head coach

Renee Slegers reveals that succeeding Jonas Eidevall as Arsenal's permanent manager is not on her mind "at all" as she gets ready to take charge of her second fixture since his resignation.

The Swede left his post as manager of the club at the start of the week, a day before the Gunners were scheduled to take on Valerenga in their second group stage game of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Slegers stepped up to the plate to fill his absence temporarily and managed to secure the team's first victory in the competition.

Since news of his departure broke, speculation has mounted over who's the most likely candidate to join the north London club.

When asked whether Slegers would be interested in the position ahead of Arsenal's clash against West Ham, she responded: "That is not on my mind right now at all."

The former Dutch international added: "It's a beautiful club and a great club. We have all the facilities and resources, so it's obviously a very good job to have. I'm happy to be a part of this at the moment and I'm doing everything I can do to help the team.

"The big change that happened last week impacted the players. I think I've said it before, but they went into a self-reflection moment and I think that's what they showed on the pitch [on Wednesday]. Big changes will make an impact and people want to try and be better."

Among some of the most popular contenders to take on the role is ex-Arsenal defender and previous Manchester United manager Casey Stoney. The 42-year-old is thought to be looking for a full-time position after being sacked as manager for NWSL side San Diego Wave earlier this year.

Arsenal have confirmed that finding a permanent replacement for Eidevall is a priority.
