Report: Frenkie de Jong to consider Barcelona future over president feud

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is expected to consider his future at the club after the latest chapter in his ongoing feud with president Joan Laporta, a report has claimed.

De Jong has been out with an ankle injury since April and has so far rejected Barcelona's pressure to undergo surgery to accelerate his return, despite being warned by those in charge he must declare himself available to manager Hansi Flick if he refuses to go under the knife.

This is the latest in a long line of incidents involving De Jong and the Barcelona hierarchy. The midfielder has long rebuffed his club's attempts to sell him and even publicly clashed with the decision-makers when his salary was leaked to the media.

According to SPORT, De Jong's frustration towards those calling the shots at Camp Nou is no secret and he is prepared to evaluate his future at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old is now in the final two years of his contract and understands the position of power that comes with that. He will not allow Barcelona to put pressure on him or dictate his next move, knowing full-well he could depart for free in 2026.

A cut-price transfer could be an option for De Jong, for whom there would likely be a lengthy list of suitors.

Bayern Munich have been linked with De Jong in the past, but most of the speculation has revolved around Manchester United and a potential reunion with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who confessed earlier this year that he could not bring the tactical style which made him famous over to Old Trafford without De Jong.
