Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has insisted he is still awaiting the results of a scan to know the full extent of Richarlison's injury.

Postecoglou claimed in a press conference on Friday he had no new injury concerns heading into their Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday.

However, shortly after his press conference ended, Brazil confirmed their 23-player squad for Copa America and did not select regular fixture Richarlison, with the Selecao's head coach Dorival Junior later confirming this was due to a fresh injury blow.

Richarlison was not named in Spurs' matchday squad for their 2-1 win against Burnley but was seen gingerly walking about the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pitch as the first-team embarked on their end-of-season lap of honour.

Speaking after that victory against the Clarets, Postecoglou - who has hit back at suggestions of lying about players' fitness in press conferences already this season - clarified the situation with Richarlison, insisting he genuinely did not realise the extent of his issue.

"It was unfortunate. I know I did the press conference yesterday, but it [the injury] was literally the last kick of the game and I saw him hobble off and I assumed it was nothing serious," Postecoglou said.

"Then it didn't get any better later on in the evening and he was sent for a scan on his calf and I still don't know the results of that to be honest. But watching him today he was still hobbling about."

Richarlison has had to battle through various injuries this season but will likely end the campaign with a respectable total of 11 goals and four assists in 28 Premier League games.

He has been replaced in Brazil's Copa America squad by Porto striker Evanilson.
