Manchester United fans finally got to see Leny Yoro in competitive action for the club on Wednesday night, with the teenager impressing against Arsenal despite the game ending in defeat.
Yoro, who broke his foot minutes into an unofficial pre-season debut in July, appeared in the second half for a debut four months later than planned, replacing Harry Maguire with an hour played.
United went big in the summer transfer window to get Yoro, a player Real Madrid were hoping to land as a free agent next year, securing an initial £52m deal for the generational prospect. The teenage Frenchman is considered for both now and the future.
Yoro had just over half an hour on the pitch – including stoppage time – but still managed to leave his mark on head coach Ruben Amorim.
"You can feel the talent. The speed, the way he handled one against one, in a very difficult stadium. [After] a lot of time without playing, you can see the quality," Amorim told talkSPORT.
The United boss surprisingly made six changes to the team that had thrashed Everton at the weekend. Two, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez, were enforced through suspension. Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo were the stars of Sunday's game but began on the bench at the Emirates Stadium. Amorim insisted it wasn't rotation for the sake of it, but the result of trying to manage individual physical loads in what has been an injury-plagued season so far.
"It's not just because we like to change all the time. But we have to have all the squad fit," he later explained to reporters, adding that four players in particular have a "time limit" on the pitch.
"Harry Maguire has a time limit, Tyrell Malacia has a time limit, Mason Mount has a time limit, Leny Yoro really has a time limit. We have to manage and winning games with different methodology, a different way of playing, more metres to press.
"[On Thursday], we have to assess and the guys who have a risk of some injury will not play. We have to have everyone, to work, to play and to improve the squad."
