Manchester United fans will have to wait for Ruben Amorim to take over as their next manager, with the Sporting CP boss expected to remain with his current employers for several weeks.
United have reached a full agreement to hire Amorim by triggering his €10m (£8.3m) release clause, but the two clubs have been locked in negotiations over the timing of the boss' imminent move to Old Trafford.
Crucially, Amorim's contract is believed to include a requirement for him to serve a 30-day notice period, with United working to offer Sporting a financial incentive to relax their stance on his exit.
As part of the deal between the two clubs, The Athletic state United have agreed to leave Amorim in charge of Sporting until the November international break.
United have paid an additional €1m (£840,000) to bring Amorim in during the November break. Sporting were demanding €5m (£4.2m) to release the boss from his contract immediately.
Sporting's final game with Amorim is expected to be a meeting with Braga on November 10, after which he will head to United to familiarise himself with his new surroundings during the international break.
Should all go to plan, Amorim's first game in charge of United will come away to Ipswich Town on November 24.
