Sandro Tonali has pledged his commitment to Newcastle United in the face of rival transfer interest from a glut of clubs, a new report has claimed.

The Italy international has been a key figure behind Newcastle's much-improved domestic campaign. The Magpies have climbed up to third in the Premier League table, spurred on rather than sated by ending the club's 56-year wait for major silverware with the Carabao Cup in March.

Tonali missed ten months of football and almost the entirety of last season after being found guilty of breaching betting rules in Italy and England following his £55m move from AC Milan. In the Italian's absence, Newcastle slumped to a seventh-placed league finish.

With Tonali back in the team, the Magpies have been able to soar once again. The 24-year-old's unique blend of grace and gusto has attracted a gaggle of admirers, but Tonali is expected to turn down any suitors this summer, according to The Telegraph.

Contrary to previous claims from continental Europe, the report states that Tonali is "happy and settled" in Northumberland and plans to stay for the "long term".

Newcastle have always viewed the all-action midfielder as a player for the present and future, handing him a contract which stretches to the summer of 2028.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Tonali, although - much like the Serie A clubs said to be interested - there is little chance the Catalan giants would be able to raise the necessary funds.

Manchester City and Real Madrid have been floated as alternative potential destinations. The frequent Champions League opponents are also said to be chasing after Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, who boasts a more attacking profile compared to Tonali.

Pep Guardiola has talked about bolstering his dethroned Premier League champions with a bit more steel than silk. Tonali's Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes is also thought to be a target for City, who could be in search of players to replace Kevin De Bruyne and, potentially, Ilkay Gundogan.

Tonali, however, is not thought to be going anywhere. After Newcastle's manager, players and fans stuck by him during his ten-month ban from the sport, this reported transfer stance is being framed as a way of rewarding that faith.
