A spokesperson for the Spanish government had denied claims a temporary registration has been awarded to Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo.

Olmo, alongside midfielder Pau Victor, saw his La Liga registration expire on December 31 and fell foul of the La Liga rule stressing players cannot be awarded a second license with any one club in a single season.

With potential options starting to disappear, Barcelona took their case to the Spanish government and the Higher Sports Council (CSD), and reports emerged on Tuesday claiming they had been granted permission to temporarily re-register Olmo and Victor while their case is being heard.

However, government spokesperson Pilar Alegria has now denied awarding temporary registrations, insisting the CSD have not yet made a decision.

"We are studying it," Alegria told RNE. "In fact, I have already seen some news, some information, that it was considered a done deal. And the truth is that at this time we are still studying the request that was sent to us through FC Barcelona.

"Because, in addition, we will have to ask for objections from both La Liga and the RFEF in order to be able to give a response. We also have a deadline, we are talking about a 52-page request that also had more than 60 documents attached, so it is not a tedious job at all.

"Obviously, we will respond as soon as possible."

Barcelona hope to see Olmo and Victor awarded temporary registrations, which would allow them to play in La Liga, while the CSD deliberate their case.

Should such permission be granted, Barcelona would still have to succeed in winning the case in front of the court to keep Olmo and Victor registered for the remainder of the season, with any temporary registrations easily revoked if Barcelona are unsuccessful.
