The Premier League have confirmed the summer transfer window will open early ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The window usually opens in the middle of June but, with the Club World Cup due to kick off around the same time, FIFA proposed a temporary window earlier in the month to help clubs shape their squad ahead of the tournament.
In a statement, the Premier League confirmed the transfer window will open between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June. Crucially, all clubs will be able to begin their recruitment business, not just those involved in the Club World Cup.
FIFA rules dictate the transfer window cannot be open for longer than 12 weeks, however, and so there will be a temporary closure before the window reopens on Monday 16 June.
It will then run as normal before closing on Monday 1 September.
Not only does the early transfer window give sides the chance to get a head-start on their business, but it also opens up the intriguing prospect of seeing clubs potentially pay to sign players who would typically join on a free transfer when their contract ends on 30 June.
Real Madrid, for example, could pursue an agreement with Liverpool to sign right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and bring him to the Club World Cup, which begins just over two weeks before he would be free to join the Spanish giants on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
Chelsea and Manchester City are the two Premier League representatives at this summer's Club World Cup, which could see them pocket a whopping $125.8m (£97.1m) if they lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.
