Sweden Women vs England Women: Preview, predictions and lineups

England Women's Euro 2025 qualifying campaign will hopefully come to a positive close on Tuesday evening when they take on Sweden in Gothenburg.

The Lionesses' victory over the Republic of Ireland last time out and Sweden's defeat to France in the other group game have put Sarina Wiegman's side in pole position to qualify in second behind Herve Renard's French side. England could even top the group if they secure a win against Sweden and France are beaten by Ireland.

However, England's primary focus will be qualification. Avoiding defeat will book their place at next summer's European Championship in Switzerland, but a loss on Tuesday would leave them needing to navigate the play-offs.

Peter Gerhardsson's team selection for Friday's game against France indicated they viewed Tuesday's clash against England as the must-win fixture. Forward Evelyn Ijeh made her senior debut last time out as a handful of key players were rested.

The rotation may have been forced due to some big names being absent from the squad. Arsenal's Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig were both unavailable for selection, while defender Amanda Ilestedt announced she was pregnant with her first child earlier this year.

England got through the Republic of Ireland game on Friday night unscathed. Wiegman also rotated her squad with some players a booking away from suspension.

Mary Earps is back in the England fold after suffering a hip injury back in May, while Niamh Charles came on at half time against Ireland. Wiegman explained last week that the Chelsea defender was not ready to play two 90-minute games, but her inclusion last time out indicates she could be ready to start on Tuesday.
