The best goalkeepers on the transfer market this summer
- Elite clubs could search for new goalkeepers this summer
- Premier League stars like Jordan Pickford and Caoimhin Kelleher have been linked with transfers
- Kepa Arrizabalaga is the most expensive goalkeeper ever and could be on the move again
Goalkeepers are an increasingly valuable commodity in the modern game and top clubs worldwide will be on the lookout for new number ones during the 2024 summer transfer window.
Shot-stoppers like Alisson and Ederson have been transformative signings for Liverpool and Manchester City in recent times and rival teams know they are the gold standard when it comes to number ones around the continent.
Picking up one of the best goalkeepers in the world isn't easy but there's a plethora of top drawer talent in the shop window, potentially looking for new homes.
Here's 90min's nine picks to keep an eye on.
9. Koen Casteels
An understated performer in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg since 2015, Koen Casteels has already confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old has earned eight caps for Belgium, including four in 2023, and the side that snares him this summer will be picking up a dependable performer.
Bayern Munich usually compete for smart signings like this and he'd be an upgrade on current deputy Sven Ulreich if the Bavarians pursued a deal.
8. Jack Butland
Rangers have been rewarded for taking a punt on Jack Butland, who saw his game time drop dramatically after leaving Stoke City for Crystal Palace. He even joined Manchester United on loan for six months but never made an appearance, sitting on their bench 20 times.
He's been an inspired signing for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, however. Butland was nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award and his form has sparked talk of a return to the England set-up.
He could be on the move this summer if a Premier League club come calling. At 31 Butland is in his peak years as a goalkeeper and will want to add to his surprisingly low tally of 87 appearances in England's top flight.
7. Caoimhin Kelleher
Caoimhin Kelleher may have enjoyed too much first-team football to go back to his bench role at Liverpool next season.
The Republic of Ireland international was a steady presence while Alisson was sidelined by injury and attracted big praise from manager Jurgen Klopp, who picked out Kelleher for keeping the Reds' season alive.
Liverpool would be able to demand a reasonably lucrative price for the 25-year-old, so any interested suitor will need a fairly large chunk of dough to bid with.
6. Kepa Arrizabalaga
Still the most expensive goalkeeper ever after his £72m transfer to Chelsea from Athletic Club, Kepa Arrizabalaga must have thought he was onto a winner when he joined Real Madrid on loan in August following Courtois' long-term injury.
While he has made 19 appearances in all competitions to date, Kepa lost his starting position to Lunin following some erratic displays and Los Blancos aren't interesting in prolonging the Spaniard's stay at the Bernabeu.
He'll likely return to Chelsea in the summer and where he goes from that point is a mystery.
5. Andriy Lunin
Andriy Lunin is another goalie who won't want to go back to warming the bench in 2023/24.
The Ukrainian started the campaign behind both Thibaut Courtois and Kepa Arrizabalaga in the pecking order at Real Madrid but the Belgian's injury and the Spaniard's unnerving performances helped Lunin climb into Carlo Ancelotti's starting XI.
Man Utd, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have all been tentatively touted as possible destinations for the 25-year-old.
4. Bento
Known mainly as Bento, the Brazilian turned heads in Europe when he featured in the Selecao's international friendlies against England and Spain in March, making some particularly eye-catching saves at Wembley.
He took his chance with both Alisson and Ederson injured and - surprise, surprise - Chelsea have been monitoring him closely alongside Inter, Benfica, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
Athletico Paranaense will want a hefty fee for their Brazil international, having rejected a £12.5m offer from an unnamed club in January.
3. Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale is still young for a goalkeeper but there's no doubt he would have had itchy feet watching David Raya take his place as Arsenal goalie this season.
A campaign of relative inactivity has scuppered Ramsdale's hopes of being number one for England at Euro 2024 and he may have to depart the Emirates Stadium if he wants to wrestle his way back into Gareth Southgate's thinking.
Newcastle, who already boast one England shot-stopper in Nick Pope, are known to be following the former Sheffield United and Bournemouth star.
2. Jordan Pickford
Jordan Pickford has been a stalwart in goal for Everton since moving to Goodison Park. He's experienced top-level football on the international stage with England but hasn't played in Europe for his club since 2017/18.
The former Sunderland stopper boasts the showmanship to thrive in the Champions League if a competing club come calling, though there are still three years left to run on his deal with Everton.
Some rumours have suggested the Merseyside club could be forced into selling the Three Lions star if a proposed takeover by 777 Partners falls through. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
1. Mike Maignan
Mike Maignan and AC Milan are a pretty solid match, with the Frenchman's performances at San Siro helping him succeed Hugo Lloris as the national team's starting goalkeeper.
The 28-year-old is often thrown into the conversation as a target for Chelsea and the rumours won't fade away as his contract approaches its expiry in 2026.
He may well end up signing an extension in Italy but as one of the world's best goalkeepers, Maignan will never be too far away from being linked with a move away.
