England take on Switzerland with a Euro 2024 semi-final place at stake on Saturday evening.

It's a scenario that every England supporter would've taken pre-tournament, but the context is certainly very different given what's gone down in Germany this summer. While the Three Lions have slogged their way into the last eight, Murat Yakin's outfit have been one of the most impressive.

Tactically astute, cohesive, and with core members playing out of their skin, Switzerland are undoubtedly England's toughest test of Euro 2024 thus far.

Still, the Three Lions have been presented with a huge opportunity to reach another Euros final. They may not deserve it, but Gareth Southgate's side just about has a pulse and there's hope their late turnaround in the round of 16 will galvanise this group of players.

Despite their issues, England have got a great chance of progressing into the last four, but they've got several players walking yellow card tightropes on Saturday.

England have got five players a booking away from being suspended for a potential semi-final. Conor Gallagher, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Kieran Trippier, and Kobbie Mainoo have each picked up a single yellow card at Euro 2024.

Two bookings before the conclusion of the quarter-finals warrants a one-game suspension.

Three of the above names are expected to be named in Southgate's starting XI on Saturday, so they'll have to be extra careful. Bellingham and Foden are poised to operate behind Harry Kane, while Mainoo, who was booked early on in the round of 16 clash with Slovakia, is set to retain his place alongside Declan Rice in midfield with the England boss potentially shifting to a back three.

Trippier is a fitness concern and may not feature at all on Saturday, while the game state will determine whether Gallagher earns minutes off the bench.

Do England have any players suspended for quarter-final vs Switzerland?

Southgate has been forced to rejig his thinking in defence for the quarter-final after Marc Guehi, who's arguably been England's best performer in Germany, picked up his second booking of Euro 2024 in the last 16.

Guehi was forced to react after a Trippier error, and the Crystal Palace defender picked up his second yellow card in as many games this tournament.

In his place, Southgate is expected to utilise Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa alongside John Stones and Kyle Walker in a back three.

When is the yellow card slate cleaned at Euro 2024?

Fortunately, Saturday's game will be the last time these England players will have to walk the yellow card tightrope.

The slate is wiped clean after the quarter-finals, meaning players cannot be suspended for the final via yellow card accumulation.

Should they advance past Switzerland on Saturday, England will meet either the Netherlands or Turkey in the semi-finals.
