Toni Kroos has issued his final farewell message after officially retiring from football following Germany's exit from Euro 2024.
The tournament hosts faced a 2-1 defeat after extra-time to Spain in the quarter-finals, bringing an end to their dreams of achieving European success. Their exit also symbolised a monumental day for Real Madrid legend Kroos - who announced back in May that he would hang up his boots for good after Germany's campaign.
The midfielder, who collated 34 trophies for his club and country over his career, was unable to reach his dream of lifting European silverware. However, he remains set in his decision to retire and has issued a statement thanking those that have supported him.
Taking to Instagram, Kroos said: "So that's it. But before I take a break and at least try to realise what happened over the last 17 years, I don't want to miss the opportunity to say thank you to everyone, accepting me how and who I am.
"Thanks to all my fans around the world for your unconditional support. Thanks to all my clubs and coaches for believing in me. Thanks to all my teammates for making me feel welcome anytime. Thanks to my friends for always being honest with me no matter how successful I became.
"Thanks to my brother Felix for always being my number one fan. Thanks to my kids for being my biggest motivation to bring the best out of me. Thanks to my beautiful wife Jessica for being you. Never change. This success wouldn't have been possible without you.
"And last but not least - thank you football! You beautiful game. And, you're welcome! Over and out."
