Tottenham 2-2 Wolves: Player ratings as Spurs sunk by late equaliser
- Wolves took an early lead through Hwang hee-chan
- Tottenham responded with two first-half goals
- Jorgen Strand Larsen came off the bench to equalise for the visitors
Tottenham Hotspur were consigned to a 2-2 draw by Jorgen Strand Larsen's 87th-minute equaliser for Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.
There was a collective pause before a roar from the away end bounced around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the sight of Hwang Hee-chan's seventh-minute opener. Afforded the freedom of the D by Wolves' cunning line of blockers, the South Korea international swiped a well-worked set piece beyond Fraser Forster.
Hwang's opener represented the 15th Premier League home game of 2024 in which Spurs have fallen behind. As Opta pointed out, that is more than any other side in the history of the competition.
Tottenham were not trailing for long. In a rather more prosaic dead-ball routine, Rodrigo Bentancur rose above the dawdling purple shirts to thump in an equalising header from Pedro Porro's corner in the 12th minute.
Spurs had the chance to take the lead before the half-time whistle as Brennan Johnson lured Andre into a needless lunge which earned a penalty. However, Son Heung-min had his firm effort rebuffed by Jose Sa.
The bitter half-time reaction which those left in the stands had been gearing up for was quickly erased by Johnson's go-ahead goal in first-half stoppage time. Keeping his cool at the end of a move driven forward by Bentancur, the Welsh winger picked out the bottom corner with practically the last kick of the first half.
As a nervy crowd grew increasingly wary and Spurs sank deeper and deeper, Wolves struck a dagger to Tottenham's morale with an 87th-minute equaliser. Jorgen Strand Larsen broke the offside trap and blasted a blistering effort into the roof of Forster's net from an acute angle.
More dropped points leaves Tottenham in 11th place while Wolves' extended unbeaten start under new manager Vitor Pereira has lifted them two points above the relegation zone.
