Tottenham Hotspur have announced the sale of academy graduate Troy Parrott to AZ Alkmaar.

Reports claim Spurs will pocket around £6.7m for the Republic of Ireland international while they will also retain a healthy sell-on clause.

Parrott joined Spurs from Irish side Belvedere in his hometown of Dublin when he was only 15. After rising through the youth ranks, he made his senior debut in September 2019 against Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

There were high hopes for Parrott at Tottenham, but he played only four senior matches for the club and was sent out on loan five times.

His most recent loan was to Eredivisie side Excelsior, where he contributed an impressive 17 goals and five assists in 32 games across all competitions.

22-year-old Parrott will now return to the Netherlands having signed for AZ on a permanent transfer.

In a statement on social media, Parrott said: "After an amazing seven years full of memories and experiences, it's time for me to take the next step in my career.

"I wanted to come on here to express my gratitude to the incredible players and staff members I have worked with, I've made friends for life.

"Finally, a massive thank you to the fans that have and continue to support me through my journey - Spurs will always be in my heart."

Parrott's exit leaves Tottenham another player short in their quest to register the requisite four academy-trained players for next season's Europa League squad - only Oliver Skipp and backup goalkeepers Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin remain. They have been linked with former players Marcus Edwards of Sporting CP and Kyle Walker-Peters of Southampton in order to meet this quota.
