Tottenham 'on the verge' of signing Guglielmo Vicario replacement
- Tottenham have reportedly targeted Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky
- Ange Postecoglou was forced to start the club's third-choice goalkeeper on Saturday
- Kinsky is in London ahead of a medical
Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a move for Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, according to a report.
Kinsky, the son of the former Czech Republic international goalkeeper by the same name, followed in his father's footsteps by coming through at Dukla Prague. Slavia snapped up the promising custodian when he was still a teenager in 2021 for around £130,000. After several loan spells across the Czech footballing pyramid, Kinsky was promoted to the top-flight club's undisputed number one this season.
Boasting experience in the Europa League, the 6'3 goalkeeper was called up by the senior national team for the first time in October - although he is still waiting for his debut.
Negotiations between Spurs and Slavia for the 21-year-old shot-stopper have been kept remarkably quiet. News only broke on Saturday morning when the Czech publication inFotbal revealed that Kinsky was in London and would undergo a medical after his imminent employers hosted Newcastle United in the lunchtime kick-off.
Ange Postecoglou was forced to deploy third-choice goalkeeper Brandon Austin for that league fixture. The Hertfordshire-born former England under-21 international was called upon to make his senior Tottenham debut nine years after joining the club following injuries to the team's number one and number two.
First-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario broke his ankle during a 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City in November. After playing most of the contest with this fractured bone, the Italian will be sidelined until April at the earliest. The veteran alternative of Fraser Forster had been deployed in Vicario's absence until he was struck down with a sickness bug which has ravaged the squad this week.
Even if Forster does recover, Kinsky could be thrust into action swiftly after his arrival. There has been a verbal agreement between all parties, according to Fabrizio Romano, and the club are "on the verge" of completing this much-needed transfer.
This injury-riddled iteration of Tottenham host Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday before travelling to fifth-tier Tamworth in the FA Cup third round next weekend.
