Tottenham Hotspur will be keen to overcome a severe mental hurdle when they visit Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

While Spurs have grabbed four points from their first two games of the season against Leicester City and Everton, their first big test of the 2024/25 campaign comes at a venue where they have shipped a combined ten goals on their last two visits.

Ange Postecoglou is yet to instil much defensive resolve in his team but they did keep a clean sheet in the 4-0 thumping of Everton and will be hoping to exploit some holes in their hosts' defence this weekend.

Here's the predicted Tottenham lineup to face Newcastle on Sunday.

GK: Guglielmo Vicario - Has endeared himself to the Tottenham faithful with his big personality and eye-catching saves. However, 62 league goals conceded in 40 league games is far too many, while eight clean sheets are far too few for the Italian.

RB: Pedro Porro - Accelerated Spurs' capitulation in this fixture last season with an awful back pass. There are still defensive flaws in his game but his attacking instincts and ease in possession make him a must-pick for Postecoglou.

CB: Cristian Romero - Showed his threat in the final third with a booming header against Everton. Has played in both of Tottenham's recent thumpings at St James' Park with different partners and has to show more steel this time around.

CB: Micky van de Ven - Endured a real career low back in April, being spun out by Newcastle's dizzying attacks at regular intervals. Should be feeling more confident after his charging assist for Son last week.

LB: Destiny Udogie - Came off against Everton with some muscle fatigue but should be able to shake off any discomfort in time to start on Sunday.

CM: James Maddison - Has shown some good rhythm in the first two matches and will still feel he has a point to prove having been left out of interim manager Lee Carsley's first England squad.

CM: Yves Bissouma - Made a stunning return against Everton, opening the scoring from distance having been banned for the season opener. Will need to be particularly disciplined with the Magpies possessing some major threats on the break.

CM: Pape Sarr - Postecoglou may have to bolster his midfield a little more than he did against Everton, which could mean Sarr comes back into the starting XI. He'll still offer plenty of forward running.

RW: Dejan Kulusevski - That tactical change could mean Kulusevski is brought over to the right wing, though Brennan Johnson is also an option and could start in place of the Swede.

ST: Son Heung-min - Wherever Son lined up against Everton, he found success. After scoring his first Premier League goals of the season, the club captain will be plotting a third strike at St James' Park.

LW: Wilson Odobert - Showed he'll bring a different edge to Tottenham's attack after his move from Burnley and might get the nod on the left again if Dominic Solanke isn't fit.
