Tottenham Hotspur are one of the more interesting teams heading into the new Premier League season.

Their first season under the management of Ange Postecoglou was largely a successful one, implementing a unique brand of attacking football and surviving the loss of all-time leading scorer Harry Kane just days before the campaign began.

But there are clear and fair criticisms that remain of Spurs. Will they fix their flaws defending set pieces? Will they fix their flaws defending, full stop? How will Tottenham cope now battling a schedule which also includes several Europa League fixtures and presumably deeper runs in the cups?

Here's 90min's season preview of Tottenham's 2024/25 campaign.

Tottenham's performance in the last five seasons

Tottenham are now fairly far removed from their period of relative league success under Mauricio Pochettino, during which they recorded three successive top-three finishes - their best run of that kind since the early 1960s - and were perennial Champions League qualifiers.

In more recent years, Spurs, a traditional member of the 'big six', have actually finished as low as seventh and eighth. Postecoglou managed to steer the team to fifth last season, though their cup performances left little to be desired.

There's also hope of a deep European run in north London having not progressed beyond the last 16 of any continental competition since reaching the 2019 Champions League final.

Tottenham predicted top goalscorer

Following a rather subpar 2022/23 by his high standards, Son Heung-min came roaring back last season and finished as Tottenham's top scorer across all competitions, grabbing 17 goals.

He should be rivalled for that mantle this time around by Dominic Solanke, who tallied 21 in his final campaign with Bournemouth.

Richarlison put up a decent tally of 12 goals last season, but his game time is likely to be limited following Solanke's arrival in N17.

Tottenham predicted Premier League finish

Tune in to 90min's YouTube channel as Jacob Culshaw hosts Sean Walsh, Jude Summerfield and Davina Pindoria to preview Tottenham Hotspur's 2024/25 season – their second campaign under manager Ange Postecoglou.

As is the case with many teams just below the title contenders, there's so many different ways in which Tottenham's season could pan out.

They could perfect the thrilling art of Ange-ball and attack their way back into the Champions League or fail to shore up at the back and drop into mid-table. What's guaranteed with Spurs is their games will be compelling and entertaining, at least.

The majority of Postecoglou's squad is still quite young, but they do have stars ready to compete now as well. Tottenham shouldn't bottom out, but they're probably still a year or so away from where the Australian really wants them.
