Tottenham Hotspur have suspended Yves Bissouma after a video emerged showing the midfielder inhaling laughing gas.

The video emerged following Tottenham's pre-season defeat to Bayern Munich in north London - a game in which the midfielder played 46 minutes - and showed the Mali international inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon. Recreational use of the gas was deemed a criminal offence in 2023.

Confirming the decision to suspend Bissouma for Monday's Premier League opener against Leicester City, manager Ange Postecoglou said: "Been in the game for a long time, when a situation like this arises, I've tried to look at them in a couple of ways. First there's a person and it's Biss and he's made a poor decision.

"There are still sanctions involved, and some of those are educational. He is a footballer with responsibilities.

"He won't be available on Monday. We've suspended him from Monday's game. He needs to build that trust back with both me and the group. The door is open for him and we can help him realise the decisions he makes impact the group."

Tune in to 90min's YouTube channel as Jacob Culshaw hosts Sean Walsh, Jude Summerfield and Davina Pindoria to preview Tottenham Hotspur's 2024/25 season – their second campaign under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Bissouma has also apologised, adding: "I want to apologise for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment.

"I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously."

In Bissouma's absence, Rodrigo Bentancur and new signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall will all be hoping to get the nod to play alongside Pape Matar Sarr in Spurs' midfield on Monday evening.
