AS Roma's Serie A clash with Udinese at the Stadio Friuli has been suspended after defender Evan Ndicka collapsed on the pitch.
The incident occurred in the 70th minute of the game, with the Roma star being quickly attended to by medical professionals after collapsing off the ball due to reported chest pains. Ndicka was taken off on a stretcher soon after, and was able to give those in attendance a thumbs up while being carted off the pitch.
With play initially being suspended for 15 minutes, the decision was made to abandon the game after referee Luca Pairetto was told by both sets of players that they were not comfortable continuing to play on Sunday evening.
Roma have since released a statement providing an update on their defender's condition, writing on X: "Following the on-field medical emergency involving Evan Ndicka, the match between Udinese and Roma has been suspended.
"The player is conscious and has been taken to hospital for further checks. Forza Evan, we are all with you."
Udinese have also released a statement to show their support to Ndicka, writing: "We are with you, Ndicka," on their official social media channels.
It remains to be seen when the remainder of the game between Roma and Udinese will be played.
The two sides were locked level at 1-1 prior to the game being abandoned, with Roberto Pereyra giving the home side the lead in the first half before Romelu Lukaku headed home an equaliser in the 64th minute.
