Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed there is no animosity between himself and Andy Robertson following their on-field bust-up during victory over West Ham United on Sunday.
Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners against the Hammers at Anfield but were made to work hard as they extended their Premier League lead to 13 points. Luis Diaz's first-half effort put the Reds in control but a late mix-up between Van Dijk and Robertson saw the former strike the ball off the latter for West Ham's equaliser.
Robertson's clumsy own goal almost saw Liverpool drop precious points in their pursuit of Premier League glory and the left-back was quick to direct his anger towards Van Dijk in the aftermath - although the Dutchman soon earned redemption by heading home the winner at the other end.
Van Dijk's towering header spared Liverpool's blushes and the centre-back has admitted there is no bad blood between him and Robertson after the weekend's incident.
"Always, me and Robbo are like brothers, you know," a relieved Van Dijk revealed after the final whistle. "We've been together through everything and this is also part of the game and luckily we got the win."
Despite his error, Van Dijk's timely effort reminded Liverpool supporters of the defender's continued importance, and he was quick to kiss the badge as he celebrated his winner in front of the Kop.
There had long been concerns over Van Dijk's contract situation given his current deal expires this summer but recent reports have claimed that an extension of his terms will be confirmed imminently - following in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah after his new contract.
Salah, who shone as Liverpool snuck victory against the Irons, even commented on Van Dijk's contract situation during his post-match press conference, urging the defender to sign a fresh deal.
