Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains on course to complete his transfer from Manchester United to West Ham United after late issues that threatened to delay the move were resolved.

A deal had appeared to be progressing over the weekend, with Wan-Bissaka left out of the United squad for Saturday's Community Shield clash against Manchester City and then expected in London the following day to go through the outstanding formalities of joining the Hammers.

However, he didn't travel down south as planned when a late hurdle that seemed to be related to personal terms appeared. But The Athletic has now reported that, following talks on Sunday night, an agreement between West Ham and Wan-Bissaka over a five-year contract has been reached.

With a £15m deal already struck between the clubs, the right-back is now set for his West Ham medical on Monday. The Hammers have released Ben Johnson and sold Thilo Kehrer since the end of last season, leaving a dangerous lack of cover in the position. Interest in Newcastle United veteran Kieran Trippier was also reported to be established but not pursued.

New West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui has been handsomely equipped with a number of encouraging signings as the club seek to return to European football in 2025.

For United, selling Wan-Bissaka is seen as a key step in recruiting Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. The Morocco international is subject to a double transfer agreement with Bayern that also includes centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Erik ten Hag has worked extensively with both players at former club Ajax and will hope they successfully boost a defensive unit that was ravaged by injuries for much of last season.

During Saturday's Community Shield, Ten Hag named no defenders on the bench and veteran stand-in Jonny Evans started the game, with Lisandro Martinez at left-back.
