Bernardo Silva may be on the move to Barcelona this summer, with the Portuguese player claimed to be ready to close the book on his Manchester City journey.

The La Liga giants have been linked with the midfielder previously, but will need to sell in order to sign new players. But, despite ongoing financial struggles, a move to Barca looks much more plausible this summer following repeated claims from Joan Laporta about improving financial health.

Unsettled away from the pitch on and off since 2020, Silva is contracted to City until 2026, signing his latest extension last year. But a £50m (€58m) release calsue has long been rumoured.

Barcelona-based SPORT alleged that the player, having achieved everything he can in Manchester, is seeking a change of scenery. He is fond Barcelona as both a club and a city, as well as wishing to link up with his former City captain Ilkay Gundogan. Portugal stars Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo are also on loan there and could extend their time with Barca into next season.

The claim is that Silva is "crazy" about joining the club.

Ultimately, Silva knows there will be no place for him at Real Madrid, whereas Barcelona would better suit him tenfold.

Guardiola is thought to be open to Silva's wishes and is not expected to stand in the way, as has been the case several players in the past - including Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane.

Barcelona's ability to afford the deal could hinge on whether they are permitted to operate under La Liga's '1-1' rule, allowing them to spend all of the money they make. In reent seasons, financial struggles have permitted the club on only spend €1 for every €4 saved or brought in.

Silva's ability to operate across midfield positions and could add both depth and quality to the Barca squad. His mature presence could be instrumental too, as they look to earn silverware next season.

Barca still have one thing to clarify though, whether manager Xavi will remain with the club or not. Xavi has voiced his fondness for Silva before, and a move could entice him to stay.
