Concerns over Napoli striker Victor Osimhen's wage demands and character saw Manchester United end their interest in a summer transfer, a report has revealed.
United have considered a whole host of strikers over the past 12 months and Osimhen was thought to feature prominently on a shortlist which included the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, before a change in strategy revealed Ipswich Town's Liam Delap was now seen as the priority.
It was subsequently revealed that United will not be moving for Osimhen even as an alternative if they miss out on Delap, who is also wanted by Chelsea and a number of other Premier League sides.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, who broke the initial Osimhen news, United's decision was based on several potential issues with the Nigeria international.
Firstly, Osimhen's wage demands are thought to be enormous. Reports elsewhere have suggested he is looking for well over £300,000 per week to make the move this summer, which is well beyond the budget of a United side focused on cutting costs.
United are also thought to have questions about Osimhen's character and personality, fearing he is not the right signing for the club's current situation.
It is even suggested that these concerns are shared by other Premier League clubs - Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with Osimhen - and the belief is that he will end up moving to Saudi Arabia.
Should Osimhen lower his demands, a Premier League move could become a possibility. Reports have claimed the 26-year-old wants to move either to England's top flight or to Juventus, but his current wage demands will render such transfers impossible.
